I won!

My friend Shruti just started a new giveaway on her blog sponsored by the Fat Quarter Shop. She calls it FQS Fun Fridays! Shruti gives us a picture of a designer and a selection of fabrics, two of which were made by that designer. If you guess the designer and the two fabrics you are eligible to win a half yard of each of the fabrics from FQS!

I was the lucky first winner and got two half yards of fabrics from Jeni Baker's new line Color Me Retro!!

Thank you so much Shruti and FQS!!

Many starts, some finishes

It is time to see what I started as new projects in February... I will be linking up at Cat Patches blog.

I started a few different things this month, first up:

a new purse which I *adore*. I used Noodlehead's Sidekick Tote pattern.

Next would be some pouches and sleep masks for my store.

I also made a nap blanket for my store and one for my niece's first birthday. Hers is the green pigs and the striped one is in my store.

I also made a round pouch for fun... love it!

And also made a Jane Market Bag for a swap.

Wow! I started (and finished) a lot! So I wonder what March will bring :)

it's finishing time again!!

Yay!! For the second month in a row I have finished my designated goal for the month. I don't know if you remember but I decide I wanted to have the top of my Giant Star Quilt put together and have it basted.

Well I don't have any photos of it laid out as I had to do it at my Mom's. I don't have the floorspace. Of course I had no camera with me then, so you are getting rolled up pics LOL!

I added the arrows to help you see that the pins are going all the way through and I'm not lying LOL! Don't you just love my backing fabric? I bought it at Joann's on one of my US shopping trips and I love it!

I am linking up with A Lovely Year of Finishes! Check out the fun!

New additions to my store

So finally I have made some new things to add to my store. It's nice to see some variety in there again. First up are these pouches. They are so much fun to make and I love choosing the fabrics!

And then I added a sweet little nap blanket made of a linen/cotton from Echino (love!) and a soft flannel on the back.

I also made a nap blanket for my niece's first birthday. my Mom will take it up North for me when she goes.

As I was writing this my class brochure arrived for the Vermont Quilt Festival... off to go read!

There's a new store in town

And it is called Fabrications! The store is located at 1098A Somerset Street West, right at the corner of Spadina.

(Shamelessly stolen from their website)

I have both shopped on-line and in person and have had great experiences both times. The store is nicely laid out with fabrics and notions on one wall, and a row of sewing tables with Bernina's waiting to be used by you! The store is run by Carrie and Curtis and they are nice as all get out :)

The store doesn't have miles upon miles of stock, but what they have has been chosen with great care. They stock solids, organics and even Japanese fabrics. Their notions run the gamut from thread to cutting mats and everything in between.

For locals, you can even order on-line and then pick up your purchases at the store for no cost.

They also offer a varied selection of classes from book binding to dress sewing.

I highly recommend this store, and to steal a friend of mine's judging system, I give them a 5 out of 5 rotary cutters :)

Feeling the love...

I am definitely feeling the love after receiving my packages for both Doll Quilt Swap 13 and Sew Sew Modern today.

In DQS13 I noticed a quilt that Alison made that captured the exact design from the Max and Whiskers fabric line.

I kind of wondered if it was for me as it had the "brown" signature that usually indicates something for me lol (brown is my favourite colour). I put it out of my mind though as I had been lucky enough to have Alison in another swap and didn't think I would be so lucky again and I was! You can see the extra fabric she sent me and can see what an amazing job she did copying the fabric... I think it is such a clever idea and I love it :)

Then came my Sew Sew Modern package. For this swap we were given the chance to suggest 2 or 3 things that we would like to receive. I believe I said sewing machine cover, wall quilt or a pillow. I lucked out and received a sewing machine cover!

This was made by my dear friend Leila whom I have been lucky enough to meet in person :) She chose such great fussy cut fabrics and included many favrouites.

Leila even included my initials which I adore! So much thought was put in it :) On the other side there is even text print that is cut out to show the letter K! And for those of you who are wondering about my initials, much like Duchess Kate I am also Catherine with a C!

Both ladies were kind and generous with their extras as well that you can see in both sets of photos. I am truly blessed by my online friends :) The extra bonus is that all this happened on a day I had to be home from work sick, so it was a pick-me-up indeed!

P.S. Did my link problem work out? Above you should see "Alison" and "Leila" highlighted in pink/purple

February's finishing goal

And after showing you what I started in January yesterday, today I am going to make my goal for what I will finish in February.

I have decided to make my goal to have my Giant Star Quilt top done and basted. If I do more that is excellent, but I know it is a big quilt and I don't want to overwhelm myself to the point where I don't do anything.

And yes, this is the same picture as yesterday lol... sorry for boring you :) I think this may happen a lot this year at the end and start of months since I have my two linky parties.

I am linking up to A Lovely Year of Finishes.

BTW, quick aside... do my links show up blue when you guys are reading them? They show dark grey to me when I log on from elsewhere so I am worried people don't see them. Thanks!
